New Forest Tubby 2 High Mountain Two Band

The handles are individually shaped by hand on a lathe in the New Forest. The 26mm knot has a firm backbone with soft tips which makes this a superb all round brush for use with hard soaps and creams. The loft is 51mm and the height and diameter of the alternative ivory handle is 45mm.

The price of these brushes is £49.95 and this now includes free worldwide shipping.

  1. As I wrote in my comment about the New Forest Super Badger Two Band 24mm Horn I fell in love with your 2-Bands. Please, tell me about your impressions of the two different lofts you´re offering….. with 26mm which one would be a nice alternative for face lathering? My tendency goes rather towards 54mm…….
    regards
    E.

  2. Although face latherers tend to favour shorter lofts, I love my 54mm loft Tubby 2 - easily enough backbone!

  3. Any plans to produce a Tubby 2 with a black handle?

  4. Ivory/white is by far the most popular colour so I intend to focus on that in future. I don't rule out other colours, it will depend on future demand.

  6. i am really intrested on this brush with 54mm loft as i do not tend to face lather...
Can you please tell me is this close to the silvertip quality?? I have heard many positive comments about this... How long will it take to arrive to greece??

    Thank you for your time!!

  7. Send me an email at NFB@padh.co.uk if you have any more questions.

My Super Badger Two Band brushes have very soft tips very similar to silvertip - but Two Band is stiffer and has more backbone. The 54mm loft is great for use with creams as well as soaps.

Delivery to Greece should be from about 4 to 7 days. Sometimes it can be a bit longer.

  10. hi, i received my tubby 2 this morning and first impressions are superb. Your pic doesnt do this brush justice! Take a 'bloomed shot' and stick that on too.

    Cheers

    Adam.

  11. Thanks Adam! I'll perhaps post a pic of my bloomed ebony Tubby 2 .

    1. Sorry Peter, I didn't get it. This means that you have available Tubby 2 with ebony handle ?

  12. Sorry. The photo was to show the bloom of a Tubby 2 brush. It is my own brush. The Tubby 2 is now only available in ivory.

  15. Hi Fido I'm using this brush everyday since last monday. It's just superb an it fits perfectly in my big hands.
I'm a face latherer and I think that thi brush is very good in FL, as it has a very good backbone, great density and soft tips.
    Many thanks from Italia

  17. How does this compare to a Simpson Chubby 2 best?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Similar chunky handle but a different, slightly smaller brush head. The knot of the Tubby 2 is a bulb shape which makes it easier to control the application of the lather. And it's less than half the price!

  19. Hi Peter
Have been using my Tubby 2 every day for about two weeks now. It is a fabulous brush. Holds water beautifully and is great for face lathering. I am using with Taylors of Old Bond street lavender and it is now a pleasure to shave in the morning.
All I need now is a quality DE razor and I will be happy.

I would add, as per others have, the label does not do this brush justice, it makes it a little cheap looking. I fully understand about your cost model but perhaps you could instead ask for a small shipping charge in lieu of free world wise shipping and this could cover any small cost differential.

  20. Many thanks. When I changed my logo some people thought it was simple and classy - others took a different view. When I run out of decals, I will consider all the suggestions!

    Thanks again.

  21. Peter your a true Gent. Your advice in choosing the Tubby 2 was great. The brush is bigger than anything else I have. The knot as you say has good back bone with soft tips. As for the logo, decal, it's better in the flesh and your picture does not do this brush justice.

    Thanks Peter

  24. Hi Fido,

Is Tubby 2 of 54 mm loft available? If yes, I will order one from your paypal account.

  25. Hey Fido!
i would like to order a tubby 2 from you. Is it only available with ivory handle? Are you planning to add some more color to the line up in the near future? ANd my last question is: do you have one left at the stock for me?:)

    Regards
    Szabolcs

  26. Tubby 2 brushes are available with either a 51mm or 54mm loft. Only in ivory - no other colours in the near future. Order by sending payment by paypal to NFB@padh.co.uk with a note of the brush required.

  28. Fido, I have received tubby 2. My first impressions, after some lathering tests, are that is about a great brush. Thanks a lot!!!

  29. Fido - I received my Tubby 2 and love it. Its primary mission profile in my den is to be a soap brush. It loads soaps very well and lathers them perfectly. I also like the diameter of the handle, it fits my large hands well. The Tubby 2 is a great brush and an outstanding value.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Glad you like it Kevin. Used mine this morning!

  31. Fido - brush stands are quite the fad right now, but is there any performance or longevity reason not to rinse a Tubby 2, or any of your brushes for that matter, then shake it out well and stand it on the handle to finish drying? I appreciate your input.

    ReplyDelete
  32. There is no conclusive evidence to support the need to hang a brush upside down to dry. I simply rinse, shake out, run over a towel and leave brushes standing on their handle on an open shelf. I only store my brushes in a cupboard after they have been standing in the open for at least 24 hours. Simpsons claim that it is not necessary to hang their brushes upside down, and they have survived for over 90 years!

  33. Received two days after payment, first impressions what a beast.

3 test lathers 3 mighty impressive lathers, can't wait to use it tomorrow.

A great brush, thanks very much

    1. Absolutely thrilled to bits with the NF Chubby 2. Ordered on Monday evening (18/03/13) and arrived Weds. (20/03/13). Now that's a great service. I exchanged several emails with Peter who offered advice on several brushes and I decided on this particular model due to its large handle which would suit my baseball mitt size hands. I carried out several test latherings and it whipped up like no other brush I own (and I own several, mainly expensive Silvertips). Just like to give Peter the big thumbs up on this one.
      Thank you very much.

  34. Thanks Denzle. I think we can get away with the reference to a Chubby. I'm sure Simpsons don't look at this site!

  35. Hello Fido,
The high mountain brush I see a new one is due in April could you say if/when they are available please?
Do you have any other brush that has high mountain hair, does the tubby range have this hair?
    Thanks
    Jim

  36. The New Forest High Mountain Badger 2224 will be available before the end of this week. This will be the only brush with that hair. No Tubby brushes have that hair - yet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Peter, we've been corresponding on the 1901 since I have been wanting a fan shape but I really love the look of the Tubby. Will it ever be available in the 54mm loft again?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes. The irony is that we produced a batch of 51mm loft brushes by mistake! The 54mm batch sold out quicker. As soon as the last few 51mm brushes are sold we will reintroduce the 54mm version.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'll keep an eye out for that then. I know you have no way of knowing for sure but can you give me an educated guess as to when?, based on what you have left of the 51mm and how fast it's selling.
I won't hold you to it.

  40. Could be soon. Email me at nfbrushes@yahoo.com for further information!

  41. From a customer in Canada:

"I've used the Tubby 2 for over a week now and I must say that it is a great performer. I can't fault it in any way. The lather it makes is very creamy and it releases it without any coaxing. At first I thought that when the brush had fully bloomed it might be pushing it size-wise for me, but this is not the case; it doesn't feel or perform like an over-sized brush. As a face-latherer, I like the feel of the badger: soft tips, firm backbone. In terms of price, quality and performance I can't think of a better brush."

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Tubby 2 is my favorite brush so far! How does it compare to the Simpson Chubby 2 in terms of size?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Same handle height at 45mm. Tubby 2 knot is 26mm. Chubby 2 is 27mm. Chubby 2 has a loft of around 50mm. The Tubby 2 loft is 54mm. We think the higher loft of the Tubby enables an excellent flow of lather. A shorter loft would make it feel too dense.

  43. Moonjava Color Tubby Two would be awesome -- just saying. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. We will leave it to others. I hate it!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Is it possible to order the Tubby 2 with a loft of 52mm and white tips?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not at present! Loft is 54mm - some might be slightly less but the batch is very consistent at the 54mm mark. Tips are not completely white - to bleach that much could damage the hair. Photos tend to make tips look whiter than they are depending on lighting conditions.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I ordered a Tubby 2 a couple of weeks ago and I've used it ever since. I'm pretty rough with my brushes especially when drying them and there has only been one solitary bristle lost. I'm very impressed with the build quality and durability so far. I've got other more expensive brushes that loose bristles with every shave. As I said very impressed, although it would be good to have it in a slightly more dense knot but of course that would push the price up. Will

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks Will

More density would be achieved simply by reducing the loft. It's something I keep under review for each new batch of brushes.

  49. black handle available for this brush ?

    ReplyDelete
  50. We find that black resin is too brittle for the use of hand tools on a lathe. It was very difficult to achieve the standard of finish we wanted on every handle.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Okay Fido, Thanks for the quick answer. Do you make other brushes ? I mean other grades like HMW, etc. or just super badger 2 band at the moment ?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Sorry I didn't spot this sooner. My present grades are Super Two Band, Finest Silvertip and High Mountain. Although the hair will be the same, I'm thinking of reclassifying them in line with some other manufacturers using similar hair but describing them differently.
